Autologous Stem Cell Therapy for Degenerative Disc Disease facilitates the repair of injury by using the body’s own innate ability to heal itself.

Autologous stem cells – stem cells taken from the patient’s own body – facilitate the repair of injury by using the body’s own innate ability to heal itself. In fact, studies show that adult stem cells can be effective in relieving back pain caused by degenerative disc disease.

Unlike other tissues in the body, the spine’s discs have a very limited blood supply. In other words, a disc affected by the degenerative effects perhaps related to aging and/or wear and tear may not be able to repair itself. Stem cells are unique in their ability to help repair the damage.

After Dr. Scheid harvests stem cells from the patient (typically from the hip area where they are most plentiful) and then after processing them will inject them into the injured area.

Once stem cells have been injected into the area that’s being treated, they break down and release compounds that help cells repair and renew, which, in turn, triggers your body’s natural healing process.

Some patients experience pain relief after one treatment while others need up to four treatments spaced several weeks apart. However, once your body reaches full healing, you should be able to resume your normal activities again.
